Unveiled a couple of days ago at CES 2025; NVIDIA’s project DIGITS has democratised supercomputing, giving the consumer access to its superchip-powered Grace Blackwell platform.

Amongst the dazzling parade of NVIDIA breakthroughs at CES 2025, the AI giant has just casually dropped the equivalent of putting a NASA supercomputer in your living room.

For the price of a fancy coffee machine ($3,000), Project DIGITS delivers enough processing power to run sophisticated AI models that could previously only be tested in major research institutions or tech giants’ data centres.

From May, you and I will have access to the kind of computing power that can train autonomous systems or process complex scientific simulations in real time.

Key Product Features

DIGITS will be the world’s smallest true ‘supercomputer’; its Grace Blackwell superchip offering a petaflop of AI performance with the ability to design, prototype and run AI models.

Additionally, DIGITS will feature:

  • 128GB unified, coherent memory
  • Up to 4TB NVMe storage
  • Standard electrical outlet power requirement
  • Linux-based NVIDIA DGX OS
  • Ability to link two systems to handle 405B-parameter models

AI for All: NVIDIA Makes Supercomputing Personal

Plenty of ordinary people use AI for a variety of tasks. Whenever you chat to Alexa, drive somewhere new using Google maps or ideate a new blog post with Chat GPT, you’re using AI. However, you’re essentilly limited to being an AI consumer – asking pre-trained models to help with your tasks.

NVIDIA’s Project DIGITS transforms you into an AI creator – allowing you to develop your own AI models based on your own specific needs, jargon, business processes and objectives.

Essentially, DIGITS lets you trade in your AI library card for your own publishing house.

DIGITS for Business

The potential implications of NVIDIAS’s project DIGITS for businesses are profound.

Founder and CEO Jensen Huang said:

AI will be mainstream in every application for every industry. With Project DIGITS, the Grace Blackwell Superchip comes to millions of developers. Placing an AI supercomputer on the desks of every data scientist, AI researcher and student empowers them to engage and shape the age of AI.

DIGITS isn’t just another tech toy – it’s the debutant in a desktop supercomputing revolution. Forward-thinking businesses that embrace this shift won’t just be ahead of the curve; they’ll be rewriting the rules of what’s possible.

Businesses will be able to train systems that understand their most obscure jargon, develop predictive models that know their equipment better than their veteran engineers, and explore possibilities that were previously locked behind million-dollar data centre doors.

From manufacturers developing AI that accurately predicts equipment failures to law firms training models that understand complex legal nuances, businesses will be able to create AI solutions as unique as their needs. Retailers could even build recommendation engines that understand customer choices; going far beyond the capabilities of generic AI systems.

By democratising supercomputing power, NVIDIA’s Project DIGITS doesn’t just offer businesses a new tool – it hands them the keys to the AI kingdom for the price of a premium laptop.

Project DIGITS will be available in May from NVIDIA and top partners, starting at $3,000.
