This week, following its initial debut, OpenAI is deploying its Operator to ChatGPT Pro users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK. Operator is an Agentic AI platform that OpenAI rolled out to US users late last month.
Now, Operator by OpenAI is available in “most places ChatGPT is available,” and in the future, OpenAI looks to debut the service in EU regions, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland, aside from the UK, these markets will take more time. During Operator’s US debut, CEO Sam Altman did not give a specific reason for the EU delays, remarking that “Europe will unfortunately take a while.”

More on Operator by OpenAI
Like many emerging AI agent solutions, OpenAI’s operator system aims to drive the future of work by providing workers with a smart digital tool that helps them complete specific tasks independently based on their prompts and requests.
Altman noted:
AI agents are AI systems that can do work for you independently. You give them a task, and they go off and do it. We think this is going to be a big trend in AI and really impact the work people can do, how productive they can be, how creative they can be, what they can accomplish.
Altman explained that Operator is a system capable of using a web browser. The CEO highlighted that its integration utilizes a cloud-based browser to enhance workflow efficiency.
He explained:
Just like [how] you would use a web browser – You can look at a screen and control. An Operator can do that and control the keyboard and the mouse and do all sorts of things.
OpenAI seems focused on rapidly scaling its Operator feature, likely reflecting the recent surge of interest in agentic AI solutions. Sam Altman mentioned, “We’ll make it better, we’ll make it cheaper, we’ll make it more widely available, but we really want to put it in people’s hands.” This indicates that increasing accessibility for OpenAI’s agentic solution is a top priority as the company aims to strengthen its position in B2B AI solutions.
Additionally, Operator is expected to be the first of many AI agent services launched by OpenAI. Altman explained that the company plans to introduce more agents in the coming weeks and months, signalling that 2025 could be a pivotal year for this emerging technology.
This announcement follows President Donald Trump’s mention of a significant $500 billion joint investment called ‘Stargate,’ which involves major technology companies like OpenAI, Oracle, and Softbank. He described it as a “resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential.”
