Amazon has introduced a new generative AI-powered personal assistant ‘Project Amelia’.

Built using Amazon Bedrock, Project Amelia moulds to the unique blueprint of a company, enabling it to create tailored businesses insights, which boost productivity and promote seller growth.
According to the US technology company and biggest online retailer, Amazon, the ‘always-available’, ‘all-in-one’ selling expert Project Amelia can rapidly supply users with accurate information and guidance to help manage their businesses.
Mary Beth Westmoreland, Vice President, Worldwide Selling Partner Experience, explains the inspiration behind Project Amelia: “For independent sellers, managing a successful global selling business can require navigating a number of complex and challenging areas.
“Sellers need to determine how to build amazing products that meet unique customer needs, ensure compliance with different regulations and policies, advertise their products and brands to acquire and retain customers, forecast sales trends while overseeing their supply chains and ensuring appropriate inventory levels and placement, and so much more.

Project Amelia: AI for Sellers
As Westmoreland says, Project Amelia is designed to support smaller, independent sellers, helping them to solve complex business challenges, such as sales forecasting, compliance, product development, advertising, and more.
To operate Project Amelia, users simply need to elicit the information by asking the assistant questions, which can be written using every day ‘natural language’ – as if you were asking a colleague.
It can be accessed at any time via Seller Central, a website where sellers can monitor their Amazon sales activity.
Amazon Bedrock delivers scalable access to foundation models and AI tools, which allows for the building and scaling of generative AI apps.
Project Amelia is also built from broad world knowledge and specialised knowledge of Amazon selling, which combines to enable custom responses to assist with sales in the Amazon store.
Amazon says it will continue to update the genAI application’s knowledgebase and further grow its expertise.
The Seattle-based multination company also posits cites three core areas to which Project Amelia can be applied: knowledge-based questions, status updates and metrics, and actions and issue resolution.
Sellers can get answers to specific knowledge-based questions like “What should I do to prepare for the holiday season?”.
Sales data and customer traffic information can be surfaced, as well as metrics related various parts of a seller’s business, can be unlocked with a simple prompt, such as ‘How is my business doing?’.
Soon, Project Amelia will also be able to perform actions and issue resolution. Sellers will be able to relay a matter related to their business, for example: ‘I cannot see our order for 300 units in the report. Please look into this!’.

Last week, Amazon mandated that employees must work in the office five days a week, starting at the beginning of next year.
This follows from the news in July that it has reportedly been tracking workers spend in the office to combat the rise of “coffee badging” to circumvent the company’s Return to Office (RTO) mandate.
