Recently, aerospace and defence AI innovator PiLogic closed a $4 million seed funding round to scale its presence in its core markets and advance its AI model product.
Scout Ventures and Seraphim Space led the round, with additional assistance from Sovereign Capital, Flex Capital, FN Fund, and super angel Gokul Rajaram.
The funding allows PiLogic to scale its Radar and Electrical Power System Diagnostics AI models, allowing AI to assist with 3D scanning workflows and salient operations, respectively.
Johannes Waldstein, Founder and CEO PiLogic, added:
We are incredibly excited about the potential of exact AI to transform industries at the point of need, where precision is critical. We believe that many of these critical applications, especially in defense and space, can’t feasibly be addressed by GenAI. And that is what we are here to solve. This funding will allow us to scale our team and expand our platform, bringing our innovative technology to more commercial and government clients.
The funding continues the trend of defence and aerospace groups being crucial in developing emerging technologies, providing an opportunity for capital and tangible use cases, as evidenced by projects such as the ongoing US military IVAS ambitions.
PiLogic’s Approach to Industry-Focused AI
“PiLogic’s lightweight, efficient, and exact inference engine will help chart a new course for AI adoption in industries like Aerospace and Defence, noted Brad Harrison, Founder and Managing Partner of Scout Ventures.
Harrison also added:
At Scout, we are excited by the opportunity to support a team and technology that will ultimately enhance the efficacy of the critical systems supporting no-fail missions.
Moreover, Andre Ronsoehr, a Partner at Seraphim Space, noted how PiLogic’s approach to “high-stakes decision making on the edge has the potential to transform the space industry.” Like military contracts, the space industry attracts many innovative technology contracts, such as XR projects.
“It is a sector still rife with rules-based-systems and humans in the loop, often for the lack of viable alternatives,” Ronsoehr remarked, adding “PiLogic will change that and enable satellite and spacecraft operators to realize the full benefit of AI.”
Ronsoehr said:
Notably, their approach is both differentiated and counterintuitive in a world currently obsessed with generative AI.
